Patna, October 6 – The Election Commission of India announced on Monday that the Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases. The announcement also marks the start of the state‑wide Model Code of Conduct, which guides political parties and candidates as the campaign heats up.

### Why the timing matters

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai welcomed the scheduled dates, saying they give voters a fair chance to decide who will lead Bihar next. “From 1990 to 2005 Bihar was plagued by unrest and booth looting. Since 2005 the situation has changed,” Rai told reporters. He added that the elections will set a positive example for the rest of the country, with transparent and peaceful polling overseen by the Commission.

### The NDA’s confidence

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha echoed the optimism and encouraged voters to choose a government that promises continued development. “The NDA will form the government again on November 14,” Sinha said, stressing that the next election is a chance for Bihar to keep growing in areas such as electricity, roads, education, health and jobs. He urged people to view the polls as a “big festival of democracy” where they can steer the state’s future.

BJP State President Dilip Jaiswal also welcomed the two‑phase schedule. “People will vote for development and re‑elect the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar,” he said. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary added, “We are ready for the political battle in Bihar. We will win this election and form the government again.”

### What to expect

The elections will take place in two stages, allowing the Election Commission to manage security and logistics more effectively. As the campaign period begins, parties will push voters on key issues: job creation, infrastructure, health and education. With the Model Code in force, all candidates must adhere to strict guidelines on spending, rallies and media coverage, ensuring a level playing field.

Voters across Bihar will soon head to the polls to decide whether the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) keeps its seat in power or if the opposition can make a comeback. The outcome will shape the state’s path forward, reflecting the public’s desire for stability, good governance and continued development.

As the election cycle gets underway, citizens, media and political observers will closely track campaigns, local rallies and party promises, all while keeping an eye on how well the commission maintains a peaceful and fair process.
