PM Modi is my inspiration, want to begin from my village: Folk Singer Maithili Thakur on entering Bihar poll arena

New Delhi – With Bihar’s high‑voltage assembly elections just a month away, folk singer Maithili Thakur is looking poised to make her political debut. The 28‑year‑old, who has spent most of her life promoting Maithili culture and music, may run on a BJP ticket from her home district of Darbhanga.

After meeting senior BJP leaders Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde, Thakur told reporters that discussions about a possible candidacy are already underway. She added that nothing is firm yet, but her interest in politics has grown over the past few days.

“I met with Rai and Tawde and talked about Bihar’s development,” she said. “Seeing how the BJP works to improve lives, I feel my ideas line up with theirs.”

Thakur cited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a major inspiration. “Modi connects with people in a way no one else does,” she told the press. “When he talks, hours feel like minutes.”

The singer says her alignment with the BJP’s vision for national progress makes her gravitate toward the party. “I want to help my village and the country grow,” she said. “BJP’s values match my own.”

Thakur explained that the idea of contesting elections never entered her mind until recently. “After meeting the BJP leaders, it started to become real. It’s not about fame; it’s about service,” she said.

She also highlighted how Bihar has changed since the RJD era. “My father saw how people left the state during those years and never returned. Today, many doctors and engineers from Mithila are back and thriving,” she added, citing a recent trip to London.

On women’s empowerment, Thakur praised progress. “Women now step out with confidence,” she said. “They’re making strides, and that’s true empowerment.”

Side comments on opposition accusations of vote tampering were brief. “There is no evidence of that,” she dismissed, noting that supporters trust Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The National Democratic Alliance has not finalized seat‑sharing, and candidates have not yet been announced. Bihar will hold its elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results expected on November 14.

For the rest of the country, the unfolding of Maithili Thakur’s potential entry into politics adds a fresh, cultural voice to the upcoming Bihar assembly elections and may reshape how the BJP presents itself in the region.
