The School Youth Ideathon (SYI) – India’s biggest entrepreneurship festival for K‑12 students – officially opened its doors for the fifth time on October 9 at CBSE headquarters in New Delhi.
The event, run by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and its Ministry of Skill Development partner MEPSC, is powered by Tanla Platforms as the title sponsor. This year’s theme, “Nayi Soch Naya Bharat,” invites students nationwide and those studying in Indian schools abroad to pitch bold, self‑reliant ideas that could shape a new India.
What’s new for 2025?
- Studio Pitch at the Grand Finale: After the main competition, selected teams will present to angel investors on live television.
- Entrepreneurial Quotient (EQ) Test: Schools will run this assessment to measure how entrepreneurial their students already are. The data will help policymakers boost entrepreneurship education.
- 24‑hour mentoring: The top 500 teams will receive guidance from IIT alumni through PanIIT Alumni India.
“SYI goes beyond a science project,” said Dr. Biswajit Saha, CBSE’s Director of Skill Education. “We’re turning student ideas into real‑world ventures.”
How to join
Submit ideas by November 20 at www.YouthIdeathon.in. The final showdown will be held at IIT Delhi on December 19‑20, where the top 125 teams will showcase their products to a national audience.
Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) run alongside the competition, equipping teachers to mentor innovation in their classrooms. SheAtWork, a hub for women entrepreneurs, also supports SYI.
Past winners have made waves: the “Pranvaayu” Water‑Saving Tool from Lilawati School in New Delhi, “Safe Spark” fire‑safety tech from Bhartiya Vidyashram Bhawan in Jaipur, “SportyCoach” from DLDAV School, and the mobile payment app “Niri” from Vidyashilp Academy in Bengaluru. These projects show how everyday classroom ideas can become game‑changing solutions.
Registrations for students and teachers are open now at www.YouthIdeathon.in. Teachers can also sign up for upcoming FDPs to strengthen their entrepreneurial teaching skills.
The School Youth Ideathon is part of a growing movement to turn India’s young talent into tomorrow’s innovators. With strong backing from CBSE, MEPSC, Tanla Platforms, ThinkStartup Foundation, and the IIT network, SYI is set to inspire a new generation of Indian entrepreneurs.
