Mumbai, India – Actor and writer Saurabh Shukla opened up about a tough patch in his career when he almost gave up on acting. Known for powerful performances in films like Satya and Jolly LLB, Shukla said he was hit with mostly cameo roles that left him frustrated and doubting his future in the business.

During a recent chat with , the veteran explained that it was the chance to work on the 2012 film Barfi that turned everything around. Director Anurag Basu approached him with the role, and Shukla was on the edge of quitting. “I told Anurag that if he had something for me, call me; otherwise, don’t,” he recalled. “He answered, ‘Sir, if there was nothing for you, why would I call you at all?’ that was a turning point.”

Shukla also highlighted the influence of fellow actor Ranbir Kapoor during the shoot. “Ranbir was charming, full of dreams, and we shared a great rapport,” he said. “Playing with him on set re‑ignited my passion. I realized acting is a joy, and I returned to it with renewed energy.”

In Barfi, Shukla played Inspector Sudhanshu Dutta, the comically frustrated cop constantly outsmarted by the deaf‑mute protagonist Barfi, played by Ranbir. The cat‑and‑mouse dynamic added much of the film’s humor and helped make the movie a popular hit.

Shukla’s story shows how a single opportunity and the support of peers can revive a career in Bollywood, reminding fans that talent and resilience can still turn the odds in an actor’s favor.
