Indonesia has raised the stipend lawmakers receive each time Parliament takes a break. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad announced the new amount is 700 million rupiah, about US$42,200, up from the previous 400 million rupiah. With 580 members of Parliament, who typically enjoy around five recesses a year, the extra allowance means more than 2 billion rupiah in added pay each session. The move follows lawmakers’ push for better travel and accommodation coverage while the House meets in Jakarta and outside the capital. The increased fund will help cover travel, lodging and daily expenses during official recess periods, according to the speaker.
