Indonesia to manufacture national car in next 3 years, budget already allocated, president says

Indonesia is gearing up to launch its own national car within the next three years, says President Joko Widodo. The government has already set aside the budget needed to start the project, which the president described as a “key step for the country’s industrial future.”

The plan focuses on building a fully domestic vehicle that will use locally sourced parts and technology. According to President Widodo, this move will boost the country’s automotive sector, create jobs, and reduce the need to import vehicles. He added that the budget covers research, factory construction, and training for engineers, ensuring the effort is both fast and sustainable.

Industry analysts say the initiative could help Indonesia compete with regional auto giants and encourage local supply chains to expand. Manufacturers will first produce a lower‑cost model before scaling up to more advanced models.

President Widodo’s announcement follows rising demand for affordable cars in Indonesia. By investing in its own production, the country aims to reduce import taxes and keep more money in the local economy. The launch of the national car will mark a major milestone in Indonesia’s broader plan to become a leader in automotive technology in Southeast Asia.
