Malayalam Rapper Vedan Appears for Questioning in Rape Case
In a big update from Kochi, popular Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, better known as Vedan, showed up at the local police station on Tuesday for questioning. This comes after the Kerala High Court granted him anticipatory bail last month in a serious rape case based on the false promise of marriage.
Vedan kept it short with the media as he headed inside the station. "Look, I can’t talk to you right now because the court has ordered me not to. I’ll speak once I’m done," he told reporters who surrounded him.
The High Court had given him conditional anticipatory bail on August 27. As part of the conditions, Vedan must appear before the investigation team for two days, starting today. If the police decide to arrest him after the questioning, he’ll get regular bail right away.
The case kicked off when a female doctor filed a complaint against Vedan. She says they connected on Instagram back in 2021, and their relationship blossomed from there. According to her, Vedan promised marriage and had physical relations with her multiple times between 2021 and 2023 in places like Kozhikode, Kochi, and elsewhere.
The doctor also revealed that they lived together for a short while. She even supported him financially, covering costs for his debut album and travel expenses. This has added layers to the Kerala rape case details that have everyone talking.
During the bail hearing, the complainant’s lawyer strongly opposed it. They argued that Vedan had tricked other young women in similar ways. But the court made it clear that every case stands on its own, so they didn’t consider those other allegations for this decision.
On Vedan’s side, his lawyer defended him by saying the relationship was fully consensual. It all started when the doctor approached him as a fan, and the complaint only came up due to personal disagreements. This twist has sparked a lot of debate around consensual relationships and false promise of marriage cases in Kerala.
Before getting bail, police had issued a lookout notice for Vedan, worried he might flee the country. He had been missing since the rape allegations first surfaced. Interestingly, after this complaint, other women came forward with similar stories against the rapper. However, the High Court stressed that those weren’t part of this bail petition.
As the questioning unfolds in this high-profile Kerala High Court bail case, fans and followers are eagerly waiting to see what happens next. Stay tuned for more updates on Vedan and the ongoing investigation.
