‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’: MP CM Yadav unveils grand Mahanatya on Emperor Vikramaditya in Bhopal

Bhopal, India – November 2 – The city of lakes is set to light up with a vibrant cultural show in honour of the legendary emperor Vikramaditya. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the epic production Samrat Vikramaditya Mahanatya will stage at the historic Lal Parade Ground on November 2 and 3, 2025, starting at 6:30 p.m. every evening.
Yadav, who stands for “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” – development and legacy – said the drama will bring to life episodes from the king’s famous “Sinhasan Battisi”, the throne of 32 celestial nymphs. The show aims to let Bhopal residents experience a tale of valor, wise rule and justice that once shaped the region’s past.
The performance arrives on Madhya Pradesh’s Foundation Day, adding a splash of colour and history to the celebrations. The CM, flanked by leaders of the RSS‑affiliated Sanskar Bharati, highlighted how the spectacle revives the nation’s glorious heritage. “We are presenting a living history that showcases the governance model of Vikramaditya, who created a legacy of fairness and strength two millennia ago,” Yadav told reporters.
More than 250 artists from many walks of life will perform, supported by elephants, horses and gleaming palanquins that echo the splendor of ancient courts. The city’s festival will echo the same spirit that drew crowds to the Red Fort in Delhi earlier this year, where a similar show celebrated the emperor’s virtues.
Vikramaditya, famed for his wisdom and courage, defended his throne by answering riddles set by the 32 nymphs, overcoming demons and corrupt advisers. His reign not only united kingdoms but also set a standard for righteous rule that modern leaders still echo.
This event stands as a reminder that preserving heritage can go hand‑in‑hand with progress. The chief minister’s message is clear: “Our future must honour the past.” As the curtains rise in Bhopal, thousands will witness a fusion of dance, drama and devotion that bridges centuries. The celebration is a testament to the idea that culture can fuel both identity and growth, catching the eye of visitors and history buffs alike.
