In New Delhi, India and the United Kingdom introduced a new tool to track their science and technology cooperation. On Tuesday, Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, and Dr. David Warren Smith, the UK’s National Technology Adviser, unveiled a pilot dashboard that maps 143 joint projects started in 2018 and later.
The dashboard, created by India’s Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser and the British High Commission, shows each project’s funding amount, partner organisations and funding agencies from both countries. It also lines up projects with key goals such as the India‑UK Science and Innovation Council agenda, the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and major technology sectors. This helps officials see where projects agree with national priorities and identify gaps.
Professor Sood said the dashboard will strengthen recent partnership milestones, including the India‑UK Technology Security Initiative and the new trade agreement. He added that decision‑makers can use the data to align priorities, spot missing areas, and guide the partnership’s future direction for lasting impact.
Scientific Secretary Dr. Parvinder Maini described the dashboard as an evidence‑based policy tool. She highlighted the success of collaboration between ministries in both governments, which drove the initiative forward.
Dr. Smith praised the effort that went into capturing the depth of India‑UK science and technology ties. He noted that the analytics from the dashboard will shape the newly announced India‑UK Research and Innovation Corridor (RIC), a key part of the partnership’s growth.
The launch marks a step toward tighter collaboration that blends research, innovation and sustainable development, aiming to benefit both societies.
