Brisbane, Nov. 8 – India secured a 2‑1 win in the T20I series against Australia, even after a heavy downpour forced a washout at the Gabba.
The first game at The Gabba ended early after India was 52 for none in 4½ overs. Lightning and rain cut the match short, but the points were awarded to India. In the second leg, the home team fought back, clinching the one‑run victory that gave them the series.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the side’s teamwork. “Everyone chipped in and we fought back from 0‑1 down. That’s credit to the whole squad,” he said. “Good batting, solid bowling, and sharp fielding. The fast bowlers and spinners are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. Bumrah and Arshdeep are a lethal combo.”
Suryakumar also highlighted support from younger players. “Axar, Varun, and Washi stepped up when it mattered. They bring a lot of experience and are confident about their roles,” he added.
Looking ahead, India has two T20 series at home before the World Cup. “Playing against South Africa and New Zealand will be a great build‑up,” Suryakumar said. “We have depth and good support from the crowd—just like what the women’s team experienced this year.”
Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh was gracious in defeat. “It’s hard to remember a series that was so interrupted by rain,” he said. “India won the matches that mattered, and that’s why they’re champions.” Marsh noted the value of versatility in Australia’s squad as the country prepares for the T20 World Cup.
The series showed that both teams will be test‑matched further down the road. India’s win beats Australia at home, strengthens the team’s confidence, and keeps the excitement of the upcoming World Cup alive.
