On Friday afternoon in Turin, 22‑year‑old Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP Finals trophy and became the Year‑End No. 1 for the second time. He sealed his spot by defeating Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti, going 3‑0 in the round‑robin phase at the season‑ending event.
Alcaraz has already collected six Grand Slam titles and now aims for a first ATP Finals crown. He turned pro in 2018 from El Palmar, Murcia, and has grown into one of tennis’ most exciting talents.
“It’s a pleasure to be No. 1,” Alcaraz said, beaming in front of the crowd. “Every day I work with my team to reach this goal. This achievement belongs to everyone who supports me – my family, my friends, and the whole crew.” He added that the team that helped him win the title in 2022 is still the same, though with some new members who made the moment even more special.
ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi and PIF’s Head of Corporate Brand, Mohamed Alsayyad, handed Alcaraz the trophy. The young Spaniard now looks ahead to the semi‑finals, where he will face either two‑time champion Alexander Zverev or Canadian Felix Auger‑Aliassime.
Alcaraz thanked fans worldwide, noting how “the energy and love from fans keep me going.” He traveled from January to November, playing in new cities and stages, but the people’s support remained constant. “Without the fans’ support, I couldn’t bring home trophies,” he said. “This trophy is for all of you.”
The 2024 ATP Finals in Turin will test Alcaraz’s resolve as he pursues his first title in this unique format. With his powerful forehand, fearless attitude, and a growing list of victories, he’s positioned as the crowd favorite heading into the next round.
