NFL’s first transgender cheerleader makes claim about Panthers departure: ‘Cut because I’m trans’
Justine Lindsay — the trailblazing transgender cheerleader who appeared for the Carolina Panthers’ squad — shared why she left the organization. Having joined the Carolina TopCats in 2022, she announced her departure in August, explaining that her exit had to do with being transgender.
During a livestream interview with Gaye Magazine, Lindsay got to the point: “I was cut because I’m trans. I don’t wanna hear nobody saying ‘She didn’t wanna come back.’ Why the hell would I not wanna come back to an organization that I’ve been a part of for three years.”
While she didn’t carry any hard feelings toward the Panthers, she insisted the team failed to recognize the full picture. “I love them down. I appreciate everything that they’ve done for me, but I feel like I was done wrong,” the former cheerleader told the interview. She went on, “It was like a big slap in the face to not only me but for the youth.” She added that this event came in the shadow of new policies emerging after Trump’s return to the presidency.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Panthers for a comment on the matter, but the organization has yet to respond.
During the first month of his second term, President Donald Trump issued an executive order that bars federally‑funded schools and colleges that fall under Title IX from allowing men to participate in women’s sports or access women’s locker rooms and restrooms. Several bodies, including the NCAA, have since revised their rules to align with the order.
