Agartala, Nov 23 ( LatestNewsX ) – Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha told a gathering of BJP’s women’s wing, Mahila Morcha, that empowering women is a top priority for his government. He underscored how women’s participation is key to the state’s “Atmanirbhar Tripura” and the national “Atmanirbhar Bharat” push.
Speaking at the Muktadhara Auditorium, the CM explained that the “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” began in May 2020 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was paused, and resumed in September 2024, running through December. “Its chief aim is to strengthen India’s economy, defence, infrastructure and technology,” he said, adding that the pandemic had highlighted the need for self‑reliance. “That is why Mr Modi keeps urging ‘Vocal for Local.’ In Tripura we are promoting the same idea with ‘Vocal for Local,’ ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi,’ and ‘Ghar Ghar Swadeshi.’”
Saha stressed that the success of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” hinges on every state becoming self‑adequate, calling for a “viksit Bharat” by 2047. He noted that Tripura is already improving its health sector, thanks to programmes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the state‑run Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana. “I frequently see people travelling to private hospitals or booking tours abroad, which drains our savings,” he said. “If we instead use our district and state hospitals, or explore Tripura’s own tourist spots, the money stays within the state, boosting our self‑reliance.”
The CM highlighted women’s critical role in society and urged everyone to understand the benefits and rights the state offers to women. “Women were pivotal in the recent Bihar elections, accounting for our strong performance there,” he noted. He added that women constitute about half the population and are driving change across families and communities, even in fields like aviation, medicine, engineering, and space exploration.
The event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, among other public officials and party leaders.
