Victims in deadly car crash identified as carjacker with criminal history’s ID kept secret
A tragic accident on Highway 83 in Douglas County, Colorado, left a father, his two young daughters, and a 12‑year‑old friend dead when a stolen vehicle collided head‑on with their family sedan. The victims—Alvin Corado, 35, and his children MaKenlee (11) and Toretto (8)—were identified by authorities on Wednesday, though the driver of the commandeered car has not yet been named.
The crash took place just before 4:40 p.m. near milepost 40.5. Police say a stolen Toyota hatchback was the offending vehicle, while the family’s Ford was struck from the opposite direction. Aurora Police confirmed that the Toyota was reported stolen about an hour earlier in a carjacking at Aurora’s Nine Mile Station. The suspect—an unnamed 31‑year‑old Denver man—was allegedly forced out of the car by a woman and drove away before losing control, veering into the northbound lane and crashing into the Corado family’s vehicle.
All four front‑seat occupants died at the scene. Two children were left behind in the rear seats: Mia Corado, 13, and Jase Green’s 14‑year‑old brother. Emergency crews airlifted both to a local hospital; Mia was severely wounded, while her brother suffered life‑threatening injuries that required intensive care.
The suspect’s identity has been withheld, with officials citing a family request. The Aurora Police Department declined to release his immigration status and denied providing his name. They note that he has a criminal history, but no further details have been released.
Marissa Corado, Mia’s mother, has shared the family’s grief on social media, detailing Mia’s brutal injuries: a lacerated liver, fractured pelvis, punctured diaphragm, broken arm and finger, esophageal tears, rib fractures, a broken back, and lung contusions. Mia, who has been in a wheelchair since Saturday, still faces heart complications and fluid buildup in her lungs. Marissa posted an emotional update, describing how Mia remembered every moment of the crash and how she tried to help despite the trauma.
“We are supporting Mia as she processes this unimaginable loss,” Marissa wrote. “We hope she can eventually grieve fully, but right now she must stay strong for others.” She also said Mia has expressed sorrow for losing her siblings and wondered how she could ever be okay.
A vigil is scheduled in Colorado Springs to honor MaKenlee and Toretto, with a joint funeral service planned in South Dakota once Mia’s health permits travel. A GoFundMe page has been organized to cover funeral and memorial costs, Mia’s medical and ICU bills, and Marissa’s lost wages from caring for her daughter.
“Please help me lay my babies to rest and get them back home to South Dakota for their service, and help me care for Mia who has a long road ahead of her,” Marissa posted, adding thanks for prayers and thoughts. She closed by urging supporters to keep the Corado family in their thoughts during this devastating period.
MaKenlee’s school, Sabin Middle School, released a brief statement expressing that “the loss is incomprehensible,” and that she was known as a bright, joyful presence who “friends with everyone.” The school asked that the family be kept in people’s thoughts as they navigate this difficult time.
