Patna, Dec 4 – The Muzaffarpur Railway Police in Bihar cracked a big child‑kidnapping ring on Thursday, taking into custody six suspects—including three women—and retrieving the missing child.
Police say the chief accused, a doctor, has fled and officers are still racing to catch him. Railway SP Veena Kumari explained that on the night of Oct 3, 2025, Sumit Kumar was sleeping with his wife and three kids on Platform 1 at Hajipur station when his son vanished by morning. After a fruitless search, Sumit filed a sworn statement at the local police station.
An SIT was set up immediately to locate the child and track down the gang. CCTV footage showed a man and a woman near the sleeping family at the time, and analysis of mobile data led investigators to a number linked to Arjun Kumar—son of Ranjit Kumar Rai from Vidupur/Vaishali district—who physically took the boy. Kiran Devi, the widow of former Sadar police officer Ram Chandra Chaudhary, was also named as a participant. Both were arrested right away.
Further inquiries brought four more suspects to book: Sonu Kumar (Vidupur), Anil Kumar Sah (Samastipur), Gudiya Devi and Munni Kumari. The child was safely returned to the police.
In court, Sonu Kumar testified that the kid was snatched for Rs 3.5 lakh on orders from Avinash Kumar of Shahpur Patori, Samastipur area, and his accomplice Munni Kumari. The ransom was paid partially via UPI and partially in cash, according to authorities. Since Avinash is a doctor who has gone missing, police are conducting raids at several locations to nab him.
The force is also reviewing the criminal records of all suspects and investigating whether the ring is connected to other child‑kidnapping incidents in the region. ajk/pgh
