A resident in Lake Balboa was shot and killed early on Wednesday after he stabbed his own father to death during a heated argument.
When Los Angeles Police responded around 8:10 a.m. to a call about a man with a history of mental illness behaving erratically toward his dad, officers were met by the victim’s brother. The brother told the police that the man had previously hurt his parents—including stabbing his father and attacking his mother some eight years earlier.
The officers entered the home on the 17200 block of Valerio Street and found the suspect lying on top of his father in the bedroom, clutching what appeared to be a knife. The man did not comply with the officers’ commands and again turned on his father, prompting police to fire several shots.
Both the father and the son were declared dead at the scene, and a pair of scissors—used in the assault—was recovered by investigators. Police officials confirmed that the weapons and crime‑scene details matched the violent confrontation.
