In New Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has stepped up its anti‑pollution initiatives, launching several targeted drives to cut dust and keep construction zones cleaner, officials reported on Friday. This comes as the capital grapples with worsening air quality and rising pollution levels.
DMRC has dispatched teams to multiple projects to reduce dust emissions and improve the upkeep of nearby areas. Their work includes sweeping away dust from construction sites, clearing debris from roads, removing rubbish from footpaths and medians, and ensuring that waste is properly disposed of.
A major cleanup was carried out on Friday between Azadpur and Ashok Vihar. The operations covered sweeping, restoring damaged walkways, fixing road sections, and beautifying medians. Engineers conducted detailed inspections of the sites and surrounding roads, checking that all materials were covered and that wheel‑wash stations for vehicles exiting the sites were functioning correctly.
These efforts are part of a broader campaign covering every construction corridor, given the city’s escalating pollution burden. They complement ongoing dust‑control measures already in place. Currently, DMRC holds temporary jurisdiction over nearly 19 km of city roads, which have been repaired to prevent additional pollution.
To further curb dust, DMRC has fitted more than 100 anti‑smog guns at construction sites, metro stations, and various office buildings. The Environment Department of DMRC performs daily inspections to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed all government and civic agencies to enforce environmental regulations without exception. DMRC reaffirms its commitment to full compliance, stressing that pollution control remains a top priority throughout its expansion work.
