Police in Srinagar attach drug peddler’s Rs 1 crore house under NDPS crackdown

Srinagar, Dec 7 – Police in the Srinagar district of Jammu & Kashmir announced that, on Sunday, they seized a two‑storey house valued at roughly ₹10 million in the Natipora neighbourhood. The action, carried out under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, is part of a renewed effort to tackle drug trafficking across the valley.

According to a police statement, the property—registered to Javid Ahmad Ganie, the son of Nazir Ahmad Ganie from Astan Mohalla—is linked to a serial drug dealer who has been charged under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act in FIR No. 23/2025 at the Chanapora police station. Investigations revealed that the house was purchased with proceeds from illegal narcotics.

Following the findings, the relevant authority ordered that the property be attached under Section 68‑F of the NDPS Act, with the attachment executed before the Executive Magistrate, 1st Class, at Chanapora. The owner is now prohibited from selling, transferring, modifying, or encumbering the property in any way. The statement reiterated Srinagar police’s commitment to intensify action against those who promote, finance or facilitate drug trade.

In recent months, Jammu & Kashmir police and security forces have intensified multi‑layered operations targeting not only terrorists but also their support network—ground workers, sympathisers, drug smugglers, hawala operators, and other illicit financiers who allegedly bankroll violent extremism and organised crime. The strategy now focuses on dismantling the entire support system, including finance, logistics and local facilitation, rather than merely neutralising armed insurgents.

It is widely believed that money raised through activities such as drug smuggling and hawala services keeps the violent terror network in the region thriving, bolstering its recruitment, propaganda and operational capacity. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been convening regular security review meetings and has repeatedly emphasized a 360‑degree approach to purge Jammu & Kashmir of both terrorism and narco‑terrorist influences, rather than concentrating solely on gun‑slinging militants.
