International Gita Mahotsav in Canada brings Bhagavad Gita to life through musical dance ballet
In Ottawa, the Indian High Commission marked the International Gita Mahotsav with the theatrical ballet “Uttar ~ Answer,” a musical dance piece drawn from the Bhagavad Gita. The show was a joint effort with Jeevan Jyoti Performing Arts (JJPA) and took place inside Carleton University’s Kailash Mital Theatre.
“Set on the battleground at the onset of a devastating war, the performance brought to life the timeless dialogue of the Bhagavad Gita—a profound exchange between the two protagonists on truth, duty, detachment, reconciliation, and the deeper philosophical questions of human existence. The choreography drew segmentally from these teachings, translating verses of the Gita into expressive movement, rhythm, and emotion,” the High Commission posted on X.
Speaking to the audience, Indian High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh K. Patnaik noted that the Bhagavad Gita’s teachings are more than spiritual insight; they represent a living cultural heritage that continues to inspire harmony, responsibility, and resilience in contemporary life.
Across the globe, Indian missions have been celebrating the International Gita Mahotsav 2025, underscoring the Bhagavad Gita’s enduring spiritual and philosophical lessons about duty, righteousness, and knowledge. The festival itself is observed on the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, when Lord Krishna first delivered the eternal sermons to Arjuna on the Kurukshetra battlefield.
Earlier, on December 6, the Canadian community in Toronto brought these teachings to life when Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan hosted its International Gita Mahotsav. Indian Consul in Toronto Kuljeet Singh Arora reflected on the Gita’s principles, drawing parallels with the values of diplomacy, balance, and service. The event featured live devotional bhajans, stage plays, and spiritual discourses, celebrating the wisdom that the Bhagavad Gita continues to inspire.
