Gujarat Govt inaugurates new staff housing block in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Dec 8 – The Gujarat government went a step further toward making city life more inclusive today by opening a brand‑new housing block for its own staff in Navrangpura. The complex, made up of 44 Class‑C apartments built by the Roads and Buildings Department, was inaugurated in the presence of Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela.

During the ceremony, Vaghela highlighted that the government is determined to provide workers with safe, dignified and secure homes. She stressed that ensuring good accommodation is not just a bureaucratic duty; it is a top priority that directly affects the wellbeing of employees and their families.

Vaghela also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge of “housing for all” is coming to life through a mix of state and central initiatives. She noted that several housing schemes recently launched in Ahmedabad, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have begun to address the long‑standing housing gaps for low‑income households, giving them a solid foothold for a brighter future.

The Navrangpura staff housing complex comes equipped with essential facilities, safety features and basic amenities designed to raise the quality of life for government workers. At the event, allotment orders for the eligible beneficiaries were officially handed out.

The ceremony was attended by MLA Amit Shah, R&B Department Executive Engineer Riya Modi, municipal corporators and other senior officials, underscoring the state’s continuous push to expand affordable housing across urban Gujarat.

Over the last ten years, Gujarat’s housing footprint has grown swiftly, driven by a commitment to affordable, resilient and well‑planned urban spaces. The state has concentrated on offering high‑quality homes for low‑income residents and public servants alike through schemes such as PMAY, PPP‑driven projects, and state‑backed rental options. Major cities—including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot—have seen large‑scale redevelopment of older neighbourhoods, the building of EWS/LIG units and integrated townships, all supported by better roads, water supply and public transport.

With the roll‑out of advanced digital monitoring tools, tougher building codes and steady investment in city amenities, Gujarat is positioning housing as a central element of its broader “Viksit Gujarat 2047” vision. The aim is to create safer, more inclusive and future‑ready living environments throughout the state.
