DoorDash driver accused of pepper-spraying customer’s Arby’s order, resulting in wife falling ill
A DoorDash driver was removed from the service after a video showing them spraying an order with what looks like pepper spray surfaced on the internet. The incident happened the night of December 7, 2025, when the driver delivered an Arby’s order to the home of Mark Cardin and his wife, Mandy, in Evansville, Indiana.
The delivery was captured on a doorbell camera right after midnight. As the driver set the bag down, Cardin’s wife snapped a confirmation photo, then pulled a small object from her jacket and sprayed the order before walking away. She quickly returned the spray bottle to her pocket and left the house in front of the camera.
Unaware that the food had been altered, Mark and Mandy took the bag inside and ate. Soon after, Mandy began to choke and gasp, eventually vomiting after a few bites. Mark told local news that she was “stuck on the ground” and unable to breathe.
When Mark examined the bag, he saw signs of tampering and opened the camera footage. He posted the video and screenshots on Facebook, asking viewers to help identify the driver. Despite his attempts, the delivery woman had already blocked him on the app.
Mark reported the assault to DoorDash and the local sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office intends to pursue charges for consumer product tampering, a potential level‑6 felony, and will investigate whether any federal penalties apply.
DoorDash confirmed that the driver has been permanently banned from its platform, stating, “We have zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior. The Dasher in question has been permanently removed from the platform, and our team is standing by to support law enforcement with any investigation.”
Mark expressed uncertainty about what was actually sprayed, but suspects it was pepper spray. “It’s horrific,” he said. “We assume it’s pepper spray, but it could have been something far more dangerous—rat poison, fentanyl—you name it. My wife could have been dead.” He urged other app users to be vigilant when ordering food and to ensure their doorbell cameras are operational. He admitted the incident has made him question future food deliveries.
