Women’s World Cup: One of the best innings I have seen Mooney play, says Australia skipper Healy

At the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Australia Women scored a convincing 107‑run win over Pakistan in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match. The victory kept Australia undefeated and secured the top spot on the points table with two wins and a no‑result from three games.
The match’s star was Beth Mooney, who blasted a brilliant century (109 off 114). Australian captain Alyssa Healy called it “one of the best innings I have seen” and praised the win as a huge boost for the team. “We were down at 76‑7,” Healy said. “But Mooney’s innings gave us the chance to chase 200 and we crossed that mark, turning a crisis into a victory.”
Australia’s wickets fell early as Pakistan’s spinners made a big impact. From a shaky 76‑7, Mooney and Alana King added a 106‑run partnership for the ninth wicket—Australia’s highest ninth‑wicket stand in Women’s ODIs—and lifted the score to 221‑9.
After the batting collapse, Australia’s bowlers, led by Kim Garth (3‑of‑14) and Megan Schutt (2‑of‑25), dominated Pakistan’s chase. By the end of the powerplay, Pakistan was 42‑6. Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and King finished the job as Pakistan fell for 114.
Healy highlighted the depth of the Australian side. “Every player can step up, and we’ve built partnerships, sometimes lower down the line. It gives our top order a chance to score big,” she said. “We’ll keep the positives from these games and learn from the missteps.”
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, who took the decision to bowl first at the toss, admitted her team lost steam after a good start. “We were on target in the first 20 overs, but the energy dropped when Mooney came in. Staying on top until the end is key, and our fielding needs to improve,” she said.
With a strong performance and a record‑setting win, Australia Women look forward to their next match against India, confident that the lessons from this game will help them tighten their game further.
