Travis Kelce ‘snubbed’ by Golden Globes as anti-Hollywood conservative commentators face off for show’s first podcast award
Travis Kelce missed out on the Golden Globes’ new podcast category, while conservative blogger Candace Owens made the cut. The first‑ever “Best Podcast” award is part of a push to recognize audio entertainment alongside films and TV.
On the night Taylor Swift dropped her latest album, Kelce and his brother Jason were excluded from the 25‑podcast list the Hollywood Foreign Press Association published Friday. The 25‑podcast shortlist, chosen by licensing data firm Luminate (owned by Penske Media, the same parent that runs the Golden Globes), featured a mix of pop‑culture names and political voices.
The list included:
– Tucker Carlson,
– Joe Rogan,
– Megyn Kelly,
– Ben Shapiro,
– Theo Von,
– and Candace Owens,
all heavy in left‑leaning mainstream and right‑wing debate. Owens, who has about three million YouTube followers, has been a frequent critic of Hollywood film productions and a point of controversy after a fallout with fellow activist Charlie Kirk.
The field also names Hollywood stars and podcast hosts commonly loved by audiences, including Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper of “Call Her Daddy,” and Mel Robbins. The “Pod Save America” team, known for its liberal political commentary, also made the list.
On December 8 the 25 podcasts will be narrowed to just six nominees. With a broad split between “mainstream” and “conservative” shows, the industry wonders whether Hollywood voters will favor the controversial analysts or the traditional entertainment figures, and what kind of statements they’ll deliver on stage if they win.
The Golden Globes have already drawn criticism from figures like Megyn Kelly—who once called the 2024 film “Conclave” a “disgusting anti‑Catholic film”—and Tucker Carlson, who has openly challenged Hollywood for being out of touch. If Joe Rogan lands a nomination, questions about the balance of voices at the awards ceremony will intensify.
In a broader sense, the introduction of a podcast award signals the industry’s recognition of the booming audio market. Fans of hosts like Kelce’s “New Heights” show watched with disappointment as their favorite athlete slipped through the cracks, while others celebrated the inclusion of conservative voices who shape public debate on streaming platforms and social media.
