Hyderabad, Dec 9 ( LatestNewsX ) – Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, accused the TDP‑led coalition of manipulating statistics to fool citizens into thinking the state’s economy is thriving. The accusation came after the YSR Congress Party president responded to the release of provisional GSDP figures for the first half of FY 2025‑26, issued by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Posting on X, Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that the government had “prepared the figures under Chandrababu Naidu’s guidance ‘to deceive’.” He added that while the administration might fudge advance GSDP estimates, it cannot alter audited state accounts prepared by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). According to him, the true fiscal picture emerges from the CAG’s reports, which simply reflect the state’s actual receipts and outlays, not the TDP’s narrative.
“The economic reality as shown by the CAG’s accounts for the first half of this financial year is that the state is experiencing abysmally low revenue growth, record borrowing, alarmingly low capital expenditure, and very low consumption and investment, leading to severe revenue and fiscal deficits. It also shows that corruption is eroding the state’s revenues,” the Chief Minister wrote.
He went on to say that the TDP alliance is “trying to deceive the people into believing that the State’s economy is booming.” He then cited Abraham Lincoln’s words, “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time,” as a reminder to Naidu.
Jagan Mohan Reddy queried Naidu: if the state’s economy truly flourished, why is it still under such fiscal strain? “If the GSDP growth during your five‑year tenure from 2014‑19 was so commendable, why is the state’s share of national GDP only 4.45 % compared with 4.78 % in 2019‑24? If the economy performed so well in 2014‑19, why hasn’t the state’s per‑capita income rank improved even by one notch during your rule?” he demanded.
