Several Northeastern Indian leaders have praised the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms introduced by the central government. They believe these changes will boost the economy, create jobs, and make life easier for people and businesses across the region.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called the new GST framework a historic step forward. Khandu shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this reform is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to simplify business and improve daily life. He added, “This GST reform is a major move towards strengthening livelihoods and growing India’s economy. It’s not just a tax change but a step toward bringing relief to farmers, small entrepreneurs, women, youth, and the middle class.”
Mein attended a key GST Council meeting in New Delhi and highlighted the benefits of the reforms. He announced that GST had been reduced on essential medicines and eye-care products, making them more affordable. “These reductions will help farmers, small businesses, and everyone looking to do better in life,” Mein said. He also emphasized that these reforms aim to improve ease of doing business and support ordinary citizens.
Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha also welcomed the reforms, saying that Prime Minister Modi had mentioned these changes in his Independence Day speech. He expressed confidence that the GST reforms would ease everyday life for people and benefit traders and entrepreneurs.
Likewise, Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio shared his appreciation for the initiative. He stated that the GST reforms would strengthen India’s economic growth while simplifying the tax process and supporting small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also praised the move. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying the reforms will empower small businesses, create jobs, and provide relief to families. Singh highlighted that this is a significant step towards India’s economic progress, especially in the Northeast.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma added that GST reforms will boost small and medium businesses, generate employment, and put more money into the hands of people. On X, he thanked Prime Minister Modi for this landmark reform, calling it a “super booster” for the Indian economy. Sarma pointed out that the changes will help businesses grow faster and increase consumer spending.
Overall, leaders from the Northeastern states see the recent GST reforms as a big step forward. They believe these changes will support economic growth, create more opportunities, and bring tangible benefits to ordinary citizens and small businesses alike.
