Trinamool, ISF workers clash in Bengal’s Bhangar; shots fired

Kolkata, Dec 6 – A violent clash erupted in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas, when workers from the Trinamool Congress and the Indian Secular Front (ISF) confronted one another, leaving several people wounded. Police reported that shots were fired, but fortunately no one was hit by bullets.
The Trinamool Congress says that ISF activists attacked their leaders in Kathalia, an area under the Uttar Kashipur police station. ISF officials have denied the accusations. Police are now probing the incident, and a large police force has been dispatched to restore order.
Reports indicate that a public meeting by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP)—the party’s student wing—was scheduled in the Sonarpur area that Sunday. On Saturday, Trinamool president Alinur Mollah and several local leaders were travelling from Kathalia to Sonarpur to oversee preparations. During that trip, they claim ISF members and supporters assembled and pursued them, allegedly firing shots.
According to the Trinamool side, the suspects fled before the Uttar Kashipur police arrived after hearing about the disturbance. Once the police reached the scene, they removed supporters from both sides, but the incident has spiraled into heightened tension. Trinamool demands a full investigation into the events.
“We were heading to a student‑youth rally when ISF‑aligned miscreants launched an attack on us,” the Trinamool leader said. “There are cases against them in several police stations. Everyone had weapons in their hands. They fired a round of bullets. We informed the administration and the local MLA immediately. We will demand a protest until they are arrested.”
ISF leader Ahidul Islam dismissed the allegations, calling the situation a “drama.” “This is completely a baseless and totally baseless allegation,” he said. “They themselves created trouble. They have become agitated because they have lost ground in Bhangar.”
