In New Delhi on Sunday, a top government official urged India to step up its game in artificial‑intelligence (AI) and robotics. “India must become a global technology hub,” Deb Kumar Chakrabarti, a senior member of the Digital Communications Commission, told the crowd. The call came as the city hosted the “Robotics for Good Youth Challenge India 2025” at the India Mobile Congress (IMC).
The event, a collaboration between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and IIT Delhi’s I‑Hub Foundation for Cobotics, gathered more than 270 bright minds from across the country. These young innovators—aged 10 to 18—were invited to design robots that could help feed hungry people and support sustainable development.
Chakrabarti stressed that India’s future as a technology powerhouse depends on nurturing the next generation. “Young people are the fastest adopters of new tech,” he said. “If we build their skills in AI and robotics, we’ll solve the ‘innovation paradox’ and boost sustainable growth.”
The challenge is part of the ITU’s flagship AI‑for‑Good initiative, which aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Teams competed in Junior and Senior categories, with the winners earning a spot to represent India at the Global Grand Finale in Geneva, Switzerland, in July 2026.
“Food security is a top priority,” added Chakrabarti. He highlighted the partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and ITU, which announced the challenge to create tech solutions that eradicate hunger worldwide.
Event organizers greeted the turnout as evidence of India’s growing tech capability. “We’re seeing more talent and stronger research infrastructure,” said a DoT spokesperson. “When we combine that with global collaboration, India can lead the world in AI and robotics.”
The robotics protest a clear signal that India wants to be part of the future tech race. With a massive youth workforce and a supportive ecosystem, it’s poised to become a global leader in AI and robotics innovation.
