Bihar Dy CM announces shutting private money lender operations

On December 10 in Patna, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced that the state will crack down on “gunda banks”—private lenders who demand sky‑high interest rates and force borrowers to pledge their property.
He stressed that such unlawful lending will not be tolerated and that only banks approved by the RBI are allowed to operate in Bihar.
The government plans to locate and confront private money lenders.

Chaudhary also highlighted efforts to boost the state’s security infrastructure. AI‑powered CCTV cameras are being installed statewide, with more than 10,000 units already set up inside all prisons.
Similar surveillance will cover railway hubs, major towns, key intersections, and the boundaries of urban and rural areas.

Speaking at Sardar Patel Bhawan after handing out appointment letters to newly selected Assistant Sub‑Inspectors, he noted that since 2005, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the recruitment process has remained fully transparent.
Between 2005 and 2020, more than 750,000 government posts were filled, and in the past five years, over 1.15 million young people secured public sector jobs.

He shared that Bihar Police has a sanctioned strength of 229,651.
This year, 21,391 constables have already been recruited and are in training. Written tests for an additional 19,838 constable slots have been concluded, with physical exams scheduled to start this month and final selections expected by March 2026.

Training for 1,218 Sub‑Inspectors is almost finished at the Rajgir Academy, while 1,799 announcements for further SI positions have been issued.
Training is also in progress for 19 Deputy Superintendents of Police chosen through the Bihar Public Service Commission.
At the same time, written exams have taken place for the recruitment of 4,300 driver constables.

Chaudhary affirmed that the good‑governance model championed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be reinforced, prioritising tech‑driven policing.
He urged all divisional police chiefs to hold regular public hearings at police stations and to expedite trials for serious criminal cases.

Reiterating a zero‑tolerance policy, he made it clear that no mafia—regardless of rank or influence—will escape action in Bihar.

Addressing the newly appointed ASIs, he underscored the heavy responsibility and confidentiality inherent in their roles, urging them to serve the public with impartiality, dedication, and integrity.
