Dharamsala: After the Congress had ruled Himachal Pradesh for three years, the main rival party, the BJP, staged a large rally in Dharamsala on Thursday. The crowd chanted slogans such as “Three years of administrative collapse – Change, change the corrupt Congress government.” The protest, led by State President Rajeev Bindal, drew thousands of party activists who insisted that the people were ready to quit tolerating corruption and mis‑government.
Among the senior leaders in attendance were state party in‑charge Shrikant Sharma, co‑in‑charge Sanjay Tandon, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, former State President Suresh Kashyap, and MPs Rajeev Bhardwaj, Indu Goswami and Dr Sikandar Kumar.
Sharma opened his speech with the chant “Radhe–Radhe,” taking a swipe at Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s alleged anti‑Sanatan stance. He argued that Sanatan culture belongs to millions, not to a single individual, and cannot be suppressed. He reminded the crowd of the guarantees made by Congress in 2022, asking whether women had received Rs 1,500, whether milk procurement prices had risen, or whether youths had found jobs—concluding that the Congress government was dishonest, deceitful and built on empty promises.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relief package of Rs 5,500 crore and an extra Rs 1,500 crore, Sharma claimed that while the Centre had offered full support, the Congress had merely played politics. He said Modi had lifted India’s pride on the world stage, whereas the Congress had tried to “sell” Himachal Pradesh. He accused top Congress leaders of being out on bail in scam cases.
State party chief Bindal said the store‑of‑sill rally was an outbreak of public anger over Congress’s failed governance. He added that the administration, which promised a “system change,” had actually wrecked the state’s administrative machinery, blocked BJP workers with barricades, and betrayed districts such as Kangra. “Land is being sold, there’s a plot to move the Central University, youths are denied employment and women have been cheated,” he continued.
Former Minister Anurag Thakur declared that the current regime was not a government of development but one of luxury, corruption and indulgence. He said pensioners and employees were mocked and forced to rally for their rightful dues, and that Himachal was being pushed toward a catastrophe. “The Congress stole the special‑category status given by the BJP, stalled central projects, and failed to provide even basic facilities in districts like Sirmaur,” he said. He announced that all ten guarantees rolled out by the Congress and all promises made by Priyanka Gandhi had “completely failed.”
Co‑in‑charge Tandon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the rally was a massive outcry against the government. He noted that not a single guarantee had been fulfilled in three years, leaving the public in a state of deception. He blamed unemployment, inflation, corruption, and administrative chaos for defining Himachal under Congress rule. “The countdown for the fall of this government has started, and its departure from power is now inevitable,” he warned.
