iPhone 17 pre-bookings in India surpass iPhone 16 levels: Report

Apple’s iPhone 17 series is off to a flying start in India! Pre-bookings for these latest smartphones have already beaten the iPhone 16’s launch numbers, and industry experts predict the new lineup could grab 15-20% of total iPhone sales. This buzz is setting the stage for a blockbuster Diwali shopping season, even with some hiccups in supply for the high-end Pro models.

Analysts are excited about the numbers. They expect Apple to ship over 5 million iPhones in India during the July-September 2025 quarter— that’s a big jump from the 4 million units moved in the same period last year. Back then, the newer models only made up 10% of sales, but demand for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max is skyrocketing right now. This could lead to shortages in the first few weeks, so fans might need to act fast.

One big highlight? The base iPhone 17 now comes with 256GB storage as standard—up from last year’s 128GB option—making it a smarter buy at a better value. Pre-orders for this model are pouring in, especially for the eye-catching ‘Cosmic Orange’ color. It’s clear Indian buyers are loving these upgrades in the premium smartphone segment.

The iPhone 17 series officially hits stores in India today. Prices kick off at Rs 82,900 for the iPhone 17 (256GB). If you’re eyeing something slimmer, the new iPhone Air starts at Rs 1,19,900. The iPhone 17 Pro (256GB) will set you back Rs 1,34,900, and the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB) goes for Rs 1,49,900. Retailers say base models should be easy to find, but Pro and Pro Max stock is super limited—only about 10% of usual supplies. That scarcity is already pushing black-market prices up by 10-20%.

This strong interest builds on the iPhone 16’s success, which was India’s best-selling premium phone in the first half of 2025 and helped the high-end smartphone market grow by a whopping 96.5%. Apple is betting big on India as its next growth engine. The company just opened fresh stores in Bengaluru and Pune to ramp up retail presence. Meanwhile, in China—Apple’s biggest overseas market—sales only rose 4.4% in the June quarter after two tough years.

India’s role is even bigger in Apple’s global plans. One in every five iPhones now gets made here, boosting local manufacturing and jobs. With iPhone 17 pre-bookings leading the charge, it’s no wonder experts see India as a key spot for Apple’s future wins. If you’re planning to upgrade, head to your nearest store or check online—happy shopping!
