Jindal Steel just hit a big win in India’s steel world by firing up a massive 5 million tonnes per year (MTPA) blast furnace at its Angul plant in Odisha. On September 26, the company commissioned the Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace – II in a special ceremony led by Chairman Naveen Jindal. This move cements Angul as India’s top single-location steel hub.
The new furnace boasts a huge 5,499 cubic meter volume, putting it among the world’s biggest and smartest setups. Jindal Steel packed it with top-notch automation, strong safety features, and eco-friendly designs to push the steel industry forward.
“It’s a huge proud moment for Jindal Steel and India,” said Naveen Jindal. “This furnace doubles our Angul capacity to 12 MTPA, boosting our edge in global steel markets and supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat—self-reliant India. Drawing from Odisha’s roots and fueled by cutting-edge tech, it blends tradition with fresh innovation.”
This step supercharges Jindal Steel’s growth plans, with Angul now at the heart of it all. The company eyes big expansions like a new port in Paradeep, a slurry pipeline, a coal pipe conveyor for smoother supply chains, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and upgraded coke ovens. These will make Angul the base for Jindal Steel’s worldwide push in steel production.
Jindal Steel stands out as one of India’s leading integrated steel makers, known for its efficiency and high standards. It runs a full mine-to-metal operation, using its own resources, advanced tech, and a global network to supply tough steel for infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing. With over $12 billion in investments, the company operates modern plants in Angul, Raigarh, and Patratu, plus key sites in India and Africa. Its wide range of sustainable products keeps driving progress in key sectors.
