New Delhi, Oct 12 – Delhi’s Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said on Sunday that the government will open a network of new “Cooperative Stores” across the capital. The stores will sell organic and locally made goods produced by Self‑Help Groups (SHGs), giving local farmers and women entrepreneurs a direct sales channel that boosts jobs and economic self‑reliance.
The minister described the move as a fresh push to energise Delhi’s cooperative movement. He announced that all cooperation‑department officials will open accounts at cooperative banks, setting a public example of trust and shared ownership. He also outlined plans for next month’s Cooperative Week, scheduled for November 14‑20, which will include Delhi’s biggest ever blood‑donation camp and activities by banks, housing societies, credit unions and SHGs.
Ravinder Indraj highlighted recent meetings with 12 major cooperative banks in the city. The focus was on improving customer service and implementing reforms in the cooperative banking sector. New branches will soon open in key Delhi areas, especially rural zones and rehabilitation colonies, to provide better local financial services.
During his appearance as chief guest at the Annual General Meeting of the Delhi Citizen Cooperative Bank, the minister praised the bank’s leadership and stressed that cooperation is more than an economic model – it is a philosophy of social unity. He reminded everyone that the government, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is working toward the Antyodaya vision of uplifting the most disadvantaged and building a self‑reliant India.
A major symbolic project was also announced: a grand statue of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be installed next year at the historic premises of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies Office. The minister said this will link the spirit of cooperation with patriotism and public service.
The cooperative movement in Delhi, with its focus on local production, women’s empowerment and inclusive growth, is set to receive a boost from these new stores, expanded banking services and the celebratory events planned for Cooperative Week.
