Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Meets with Key Telecom Companies to Boost Digital Growth
On September 4, in New Delhi, Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia held an important meeting to review the financial health of India’s major public telecom companies. The meeting included leaders from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), and ITI Limited.
The main focus was on how these companies are performing financially, their growth trends, and plans for the future. All three companies showed positive signs of progress, signaling a strong push toward building a more connected and digital India.
One of the biggest highlights was BSNL’s remarkable turnaround. After nearly 18 years, BSNL has posted profits for two straight quarters. In the third quarter of 2024-25, BSNL earned Rs 262 crore, and in the fourth quarter, Rs 280 crore. This is a huge improvement from a loss of Rs 849 crore in the same period last year. As a result, BSNL’s annual losses have decreased by about 58%, now standing at Rs 2,247 crore.
This progress follows recent meetings where BSNL’s network managers from across the country shared plans to improve customer service and efficiency. Now, the government is seeing these plans turn into real financial benefits.
Minister Scindia praised BSNL’s success, saying it shows the government’s commitment to strengthening public sector companies and helping India lead the mobile and internet revolution.
Looking at TCIL, the company’s revenue grew by 17% in 2024-25, and profits more than doubled compared to the previous year. ITI Limited also saw strong growth, with revenue reaching Rs 4,323 crore—more than twice what it earned last year—and it achieved positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), a sign of good financial health.
Minister Scindia emphasized that these companies should keep focusing on innovation, delivering better services, and adopting sustainable business practices. He reiterated the government’s strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a self-reliant and resilient telecom nation, ensuring connectivity reaches every part of the country.
This ongoing effort aims to create a stronger, more connected India—powered by efficient public telecom companies working towards bigger goals.
