Exciting news for movie fans: Anupam Kher’s directorial film Tanvi The Great hits theaters again on September 26, giving audiences a fresh chance to catch this inspiring story. The movie stars Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role and dives into powerful themes like courage, autism, and the Indian armed forces.
Shubhangi Dutt shared her joy with about this second theatrical run, just two months after the first. "The second chance we got is beautiful," she said. "It feels really good, like we’re reliving those days when we shot and promoted the film. It’s an exciting feeling. Firsts are always special, but our first is getting a second chance."
Dutt also lit up talking about praise for her performance, especially from Hollywood legend Robert De Niro. "I really liked everyone’s compliments," she noted, with a slight bias toward De Niro’s words. "When Robert De Niro called my performance terrific—I think that’s the best compliment. Whenever I hear ‘terrific,’ I smile and remember it."
Anupam Kher, who directs and stars as the grandfather, opened up about why he’s bringing Tanvi The Great back to theaters. He sees second chances as a big part of his life journey. "I just thought, why not in theaters again? I’m not calling it a re-release," Kher explained. "In my entire life, when things happened a second time, they improved. It’s very important for me to try."
Kher shared a personal story from his debut film Saraansh, where producers replaced him with Sanjeev Kumar just 10 days before shooting. He fought back and won that role, kicking off a 40-year career full of highs and lows. After Tanvi The Great didn’t wow at the box office initially, the team hustled with special screenings. "We showed it in more than 10,000 schools, public schools, and even in Dubai and cities across the country," Kher said. "The love it’s received is amazing. So, why not give it a second chance? It’ll hit OTT in a few months anyway, and its recall value is strong since it came out just two months ago. What’s the harm in trying?"
At its heart, Tanvi The Great follows a young girl with autism, played by Dutt, who lives with her mother and grandfather. Driven by her late father’s legacy, she sets her sights on joining the Indian Army. The film packs a stellar cast, including Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen.
Produced by Anupam Kher Studios and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the movie earned buzz at international festivals in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston. It even got standing ovations during previews at the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command in Pune.
Tanvi The Great first arrived in theaters on July 18, 2025, and now it’s ready for round two—perfect for viewers interested in heartfelt stories about autism awareness, military life, and unbreakable spirit.
