Digital push, NEP bringing out a more creative, research-driven youth: Arunachal Guv

Itanagar, Nov 30 – Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) highlighted how national programmes such as Digital India, Skill India, Start‑up India, Make in India and the redesigned NEP 2020 are equipping young people with flexible learning options and encouraging a generation that thrives on creativity and research‑driven ideas.
Speaking at the 23rd Convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Rono Hills, Doimukh, the Governor described the university as a vibrant hub where modern disciplines and the state’s cultural heritage coexist, shaping the intellectual lives of students.
He praised the faculty, active student body and the university’s focus on innovation and inclusivity, noting that these strengths produce graduates who are not only academically capable but also socially conscious and prepared to contribute to society.
With Arunachal Pradesh accelerating its development agenda, the Governor urged RGU to become a catalyst for progress. He called for greater emphasis on cutting‑edge research, entrepreneurship, upgraded infrastructure and expanded national and international partnerships. He also underlined the necessity of a clean, green and plastic‑free campus that promotes sports and physical well‑being for well‑rounded growth.
According to Lt. General Parnaik (Retd.), these initiatives would allow RGU to generate locally relevant solutions, support the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, and play a transformative role in shaping a prosperous, future‑ready Arunachal Pradesh.
He advised the teachers that their chief responsibility extends beyond instruction to inspiration. Classrooms, he said, should be arenas where ideas are forged and futures take shape. Educators must nurture curiosity, critical thinking and innovation, encouraging students to question, explore and challenge themselves in an ever‑changing landscape.
During the ceremony, the Governor—who also serves as the Chief Rector of RGU—awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for the 2024‑25 academic year to Bobita Hazarika, M.Sc. (Chemistry), and the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal to Prastuti Borah, B.Ed., the top undergraduate.
The convocation conferred degrees on 115 Ph.D. scholars, 911 post‑graduates and 6 331 undergraduates. Additionally, 127 post‑graduate diploma recipients and a total of 71 gold‑medal winners (38 from postgraduate programmes and 33 from undergraduate programmes) were honored for their outstanding academic performance.
