India’s top policy think tank, NITI Aayog, unveiled a groundbreaking report on Tuesday that spotlights the country’s impressive strides in science, technology, and innovation. Titled “Pathways to Progress: Analysis and Insights into India’s Innovation Story,” the document dives deep into India’s achievements, hurdles, and future steps to emerge as a major global innovation hub.
The report paints a full picture of India’s buzzing innovation ecosystem. It covers everything from national and state-level programs to fresh ideas from industries, local communities, startups, and partnerships between universities, businesses, and government. Plus, it tracks how India stacks up in worldwide innovation rankings.
But it’s not all smooth sailing—the report points out key challenges and offers a clear roadmap forward. This includes expanding proven ideas, pushing for cutting-edge deep tech, boosting knowledge creation, linking up more with the global scene, and ramping up innovation skills across states.
At the launch in New Delhi, Dr. Deepak Bagla, Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), shared how AIM is changing the game. “We’re nurturing young entrepreneurs, sparking large-scale innovation, and building a lively startup culture nationwide,” he said.
Dr. V.K. Saraswat, a member of NITI Aayog, highlighted why science, technology, and innovation matter so much for India’s growth path. He praised the report for delivering solid, data-backed insights to shape policies, build stronger ties between institutions, and spark teamwork among academia, industry, and government.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh drove home that innovation in India runs deep—it’s not just about high-tech frontiers. He spotlighted government efforts to fuel research, develop new technologies, and turn ideas into real-world products across sectors. “We need inclusive innovation that tackles everyday problems, helps India compete on the world stage, and fuels fair, sustainable growth,” Singh added.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan celebrated India’s advances in creating a strong innovation network. He urged everyone to brand “Bharat” as a world leader in knowledge, science, and technology. “Let’s tap into our young talent, skills, and strong institutions to create innovation that’s big, bold, and open to all,” Pradhan said.
