Tamil Nadu is stepping up its farming and land‑mapping game by buying new drones. The state’s Tamil Nadu Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Corporation (TNUAVC), which works under the Higher Education Department, has issued tenders for two types of DGCA‑certified drones—agriculture drones and survey drones.
Both drones have passed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s strict safety tests. “DGCA certification isn’t just a formality—it guarantees safety, lets us get government subsidies, and qualifies the drones for institutional loans,” a senior department official said.
The agricultural drones are lightweight and built from durable carbon fibre. They come with precise spray systems, custom nozzles, and smart safety features like early‑warning alerts and automatic return‑to‑home. Parents who use them can expect accurate pesticide and fertilizer applications that match plant growth and field density. The state plans to buy about 50 of these agri‑drones, which will also include a flight‑crash warranty for peace of mind.
Survey drones will focus on mapping and land‑record accuracy. They feature high‑resolution cameras that produce clear photos and video, plus strong data‑security that blocks unapproved users. Designed to work in varied terrain and tough temperatures, they’re ready for Tamil Nadu’s hot summers and cool winters.
By adding these modern drones, the government hopes to boost precision agriculture, improve land‑survey operations, and bring cutting‑edge technology to everyday governance. The procurement process should finish shortly, after which the drones will start flying across the state.
