FBI Catches Suspect in Charlie Kirk Assassination Case in Record Time
FBI Director Kash Patel shared some big news on Friday about the investigation into the tragic death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During a press conference in Washington, Patel looked relieved as he announced that his team had made historic progress. "In less than 36 hours—33 to be exact—we apprehended the suspect," he said. He credited the quick work to the full support of the federal government, along with partners in Utah and Governor Cox.
Patel didn’t hold back on his thanks to US President Donald Trump, saying the resources from the White House helped deliver justice so fast. In a heartfelt moment, he paid tribute to his late friend Kirk, speaking directly to him: "To my friend, Charlie Kirk: Rest now, brother. We have the watch. And I’ll see you in Valhalla."
President Trump jumped into the conversation too, chatting about the case on Fox & Friends. He revealed that someone very close to the suspect turned him in, leading to the quick arrest. "I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody," Trump said. He added a strong wish for justice: "I hope he gets the death penalty."
Trump got emotional talking about Kirk, calling him "like a son." He remembered how Kirk started Turning Point USA during what should have been his college years, turning it into a massive movement. "I’ve never seen young people, or any group, go to one person like they did to Charlie," Trump shared. He even mentioned speaking to Kirk’s wife, who is heartbroken but determined to keep the nonprofit alive. "She was devastated. But in between the devastation, they want to keep Turning Point USA going… they think they can do it," he said.
Kirk and his organization played a key role in Trump’s 2024 White House comeback. They poured major efforts into get-out-the-vote drives in Arizona, a crucial battleground state that Trump flipped from President Joe Biden, according to CNN reports.
On the punishment front, Trump pointed out Utah’s death penalty system. "In Utah, they have the death penalty… the Governor is very intent on the death penalty in this case, and he should be," he noted. He mentioned North Carolina has it too, stressing that this "horrific crime" demands the maximum penalty. Trump also said the suspect’s father cooperated with investigators, based on the briefing he got before the interview. "I’m always subject to correction, but I’m just giving you based on what I’m hearing," he added.
The shocking incident happened while Kirk was speaking at a debate at Utah Valley University. Authorities believe a shooter fired a single round from a rooftop, hitting Kirk in the neck in what looks like a targeted assassination. The FBI’s swift action in the Charlie Kirk investigation has everyone talking about how justice is moving forward.
