Mumbai – Adinath Kothare is stepping into detective territory for the first time with the upcoming Marathi series Detective Dhananjay. He will not only play the titular sleuth but also pitch in as the series’ producer, saying the role is “a little tough but extremely interesting.”
The series brings to life the classic character created by novelist Baburao Arnalkar. It’s set to launch on Zee5 under the Zee5 Marathi Originals banner, a joint project between Indian Magic Eye, headed by Shrirang Godbole, and Kothare’s own Storytellers Nook Pvt. Ltd.
Kothare’s career has spanned child roles to feature films, including a memorable turn as a ventriloquist in Zapatlela 2 and playing cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar in 83. Other notable projects include the musical drama Chandramukhi, family drama Shaktimaan, and comedy Panchak. He made his directorial mark with the National Award‑winning film Paani and has appeared in series like City of Dreams Season 2 and Crime Beat.
Beyond the screen, Kothare is married to actress Urmila Kothare, and the couple has a daughter. The new series promises fresh challenges for the seasoned actor‑producer as he dives into the world of crime‑solving on Marathi television.
