Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur District Gets a New Name: Aalirajpur
In a big win for locals in Madhya Pradesh, the Alirajpur district has officially changed its name to Aalirajpur. The Indian government’s Ministry of Home Affairs gave the green light, and the state’s Public Relations Department announced the update on Monday. This move honors the area’s rich cultural roots and answers years of calls from residents.
The change kicks in right away. District Collector had pushed the proposal to the state government, which then sent it to the center. On August 21, the Home Ministry issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), clearing the path for the rename. Now, expect to see Aalirajpur pop up on all official papers, maps, government records, and admin files. Signage, websites, and public notices will start updating soon—probably in the coming days.
Alirajpur district split off from Jhabua back on May 17, 2008, and took its name from the main town. It’s a hub for tribal communities and local development in Madhya Pradesh. People here say the new spelling—Aalirajpur—better captures the district’s historical vibe and tribal heritage.
This push for the name change isn’t new. Back in 2012, a local group handed over a memo at a district planning meeting led by then-Minister Antar Singh Arya. They argued it matched the area’s history and culture, and the committee backed it fully. After over a decade, that effort finally paid off with this week’s big news.
