AR Rahman Teams Up with Harry Potter Star Tom Felton for Exciting Gandhi Series

Music legend AR Rahman, the Oscar-winning composer, recently shared a fun selfie with Harry Potter actor Tom Felton on Instagram. The duo is collaborating on the much-anticipated Gandhi series, which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Fans of Bollywood music and international cinema are buzzing about this star-studded project!

In the Instagram post, Rahman posed with Felton, adding a playful text overlay: "With Draco" – a nod to Felton’s iconic role as the sly Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies. Rahman captioned the photo: "@t22felton is a major part of the #Gandhi series I am scoring which premiered Yesterday at @tiff_net @hansalmehta @applausesocial @pratikgandhiofficial." It’s clear this Gandhi TV series is shaping up to be a big deal, blending Rahman’s magical scores with Felton’s acting chops.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta, the Gandhi series brings Mahatma Gandhi’s life to the screen, drawing from historian Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World. The show plans to unfold over three seasons, offering a deep dive into the father of the nation’s journey. Season one, wrapping up shooting in August 2024, covers Gandhi’s early years from 1888 to 1915. It starts with his curious teenage days in colonial India, moves to his shy student life in London, and follows his transformative 23 years as a young lawyer in South Africa.

Leading the cast, Pratik Gandhi steps into the shoes of Mahatma Gandhi, while Bhamini Oza plays his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. Applause Entertainment produces this gripping biographical drama, promising to captivate audiences with its historical insights and emotional storytelling.

AR Rahman, often called the "Mozart of Madras," has an incredible track record. He has won six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. In 2010, India honored him with the prestigious Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award. His work on the Gandhi series soundtrack is sure to add an epic touch to Gandhi’s inspiring story.

Tom Felton, best known worldwide for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s novels, brings fresh energy to the project. In the series, he plays Josiah Oldfield, a key figure in Gandhi’s life. Felton’s career kicked off with commercials and his debut as Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers. He later starred as Louis T. Leonowens in Anna and the King before becoming a household name in the eight Harry Potter films, from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

After the wizarding world, Felton ventured into sci-fi with Rise of the Planet of the Apes and indie hits like From the Rough and The Apparition. His move to the Gandhi series shows how global talents are coming together to celebrate India’s freedom struggle.

This collaboration between AR Rahman and Tom Felton in the Gandhi series highlights the growing appeal of biographical dramas on global stages like TIFF. Stay tuned for more updates on this Mahatma Gandhi biopic – it’s set to inspire a new generation!
