Suryakumar Yadav on promoting Shivam Dube in batting order

India pulled off a thrilling 41-run win over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Super Fours match at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday. This victory sealed India’s spot in the final, knocking Sri Lanka out of the tournament. Now, Pakistan and Bangladesh face a high-stakes clash for the other final berth.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav opened up about a bold tactical call during the post-match chat. After losing opener Shubman Gill early in the seventh over, the team sent Shivam Dube to bat at No. 3. Yadav targeted Bangladesh’s spin attack—a left-arm spinner and a leg spinner—figuring Dube’s strengths would shine in the tricky 7-15 overs phase.

“We hadn’t batted first much in this tournament, except against Oman,” Yadav said. “But we wanted to try it in the Super Fours and see how it played out. Looking at their bowlers, Dube seemed perfect for that spot. It didn’t work out—he got just two runs off three balls—but that’s cricket for you.”

India racked up 168 for 6 after choosing to bat first. Abhishek Sharma fired with a quick 75, while Hardik Pandya added a solid 38 off 29 balls to push the score along. Yadav noted the slower outfield kept things under control: “If it had been quicker, we might have hit 180-185. But with our bowling attack, if we bowl 12-14 tight overs, we win most games.”

Bangladesh fought back smartly, especially after the 10-over mark, holding India to that total. Stand-in captain Jaker Ali gave credit to his team’s adjustments. “It was surprising, but we prepared well,” he said. “All props to the boys—they adapted brilliantly after 10 overs. We learned a lot from this. We’ve got another game tomorrow, and we’re focused on winning to reach the final. We’ll pick the right combination and give it everything.”

In the chase, Bangladesh crumbled under pressure from India’s wrist-spinners, who grabbed five key wickets and choked the batting lineup. This win highlights India’s strong form in the Asia Cup 2023, setting up an exciting final showdown.
