The incident happened at Velusamypuram along the Karur-Erode highway, where around 60,000 supporters showed up—twice the crowd size officials had approved. Eyewitnesses say the trouble started when fans rushed toward stage barriers for a closer look at Vijay. That surge sparked panic, suffocation, and fainting spells. Ambulances couldn’t get through the jammed roads fast enough to help the injured.
Yogi’s words echo condolences from other top leaders, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin jumped into action, promising quick medical aid and launching a full magisterial probe into the stampede causes.
