In Kochi on November 13, director Jayan Nambiar announced his next film, Vilayath Buddha, a fresh mix of action, romance and moral conflict set inside Marayoor’s sandalwood forests.
The story follows “Double Mohan,” played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, a daring smuggler who robs sandalwood from the most tightly guarded government reserves. Forest rangers and police keep a close watch, yet Double Mohan slips past every trap with fearless skill, earning both legend status and a life on the run.
Amid the patrols and rival gangs, Mohan finds refuge in Chaithanya, a village girl who has admired his daring since childhood. State‑Award winner Priyamvada Krishnan brings depth to Chaithanya, adding a tender love story that balances the film’s intense action.
Vilayath Buddha is based on G.R. Indugopan’s acclaimed novel. Indugopan, along with Rajesh Pinnadan, wrote the screenplay for the movie, which producers Sandeep Senan and A.V. Anoop are backing under the Urvashi Theatres and AVA Productions banners.
The supporting cast includes Shammi Thilakan, Anu Mohan, Kiran Peethambaran, Adat Gopalan, Pramod Veliyanad and Vinod Thomas. Aravind Kashyap and Renadive capture Marayoor’s lush scenery, while Jakes Bejoy scores the film’s emotional moments. Sreejith Sreerang edits the final cut, with Banglan handling production design and Jithu Sebastian overseeing art direction.
Filming stretched across Marayoor, Idukki, Nelliampathy and Palakkad, and post‑production is winding down. The movie promises a potent blend of stunning visuals, strong performances and a haunting soundtrack, set against the timeless tug‑of‑war between love and law.
Vilayath Buddha will hit theatres on November 21, released by Urvashi Theatres. Keep an eye out for this action‑packed, romantic drama set in the heart of Kerala’s sandalwood forests.
