Mumbai-based actress Madalsa Sharma is over the moon about her role in the new film The Bengal Files. The TV star, known for her hit role in Anupamaa, recently shared a heartfelt post on social media, thanking director Vivek Agnihotri and producer Pallavi Joshi for the amazing opportunity.
In her Instagram post, Madalsa shared a photo with the duo and wrote, "It was an absolute honour and privilege to be a part of this amazing film and to be directed by the master craftsman @vivekagnihotri ji and all my love and respects to the tremendous powerhouse of an actor @pallavijoshiofficial mam. Hope you all are enjoying the film, and thank you for giving me the lovely feedback for my cameo. @iambuddha_films @abhishekofficl @zeestudiosofficial #TheBengalFiles."
Madalsa played a special cameo in the movie, which also features her father-in-law, Bollywood legend Mithun Chakraborty. The film hit screens on September 5, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The Bengal Files has stirred up major controversies and even faced a ban on screenings across West Bengal.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which supports thousands of workers in the film and TV industry, has stepped in. They voiced strong concerns about the "undeclared ban" on the movie’s theatrical release in West Bengal. FWICE pointed out that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has already approved The Bengal Files for nationwide release.
In a firm statement, FWICE urged the government to act fast and ensure theaters in West Bengal screen the film without any hassle. They also called on cinema owners there to start showings right away. "The film represents significant investment, effort, and artistic labour of the filmmakers, and its audience deserves the opportunity to view it freely," the body said. FWICE stood firmly with the producers and asked other film bodies across India to protest this "illegal ban."
For those wondering, The Bengal Files dives into the tragic events of Direct Action Day on August 16, 1946. It sheds light on one of India’s darkest moments, when brutal riots erupted in Kolkata, leading to widespread violence between communities. The unrest quickly spread to places like Noakhali, Bihar, and Punjab, sparking tensions between Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims.
Madalsa Sharma, meanwhile, won hearts with her negative role as Kavya in the popular TV show Anupamaa. Fans and critics praised her strong performance, making her a fan favorite in the daily soap world.
As the buzz around The Bengal Files grows amid the ban controversy, it’s clear this film is sparking important conversations about history and freedom of expression in Indian cinema.
