On Dev Anand’s 102nd birth anniversary, Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff paid a touching tribute to the timeless star, calling him the "evergreen hero" of Indian cinema.
Jackie shared a heartfelt video montage on his Instagram Stories, filled with rare black-and-white photos of Dev Anand. The clip featured some of his most iconic songs, like "Dil Ka Bhanwar Kare Pukar" from the 1963 film Tere Ghar Ke Samne, "Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat" from Teen Devian in 1965, "Hai Apna Dil To Awara" from Solva Saal in 1958, and "Ankhon Hi Ankhon Mein" from C.I.D. in 1956. He added a simple caption: "Remembering Dev Saab on his birth anniversary."
Dev Anand remains one of the biggest legends in Bollywood history. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he starred in over 100 films and became a household name for his charm and style. Fans and critics alike remember him as a pioneer of Hindi cinema, blending romance, drama, and thrillers that still captivate audiences today.
He kicked off his journey in 1946 with a lead role in Hum Ek Hain, a movie promoting Hindu-Muslim unity under Prabhat Films. His big break came in 1948 with Ziddi, but Baazi in 1951 really launched him to stardom. That crime thriller sparked the "Bombay Noir" trend that defined Hindi films in the 1950s.
From the 1950s through the 1970s, Dev Anand delivered one hit after another. Classics like Jaal, Taxi Driver, Insaniyat, C.I.D., Paying Guest, Kala Pani, Kala Bazar, Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai, Hum Dono, Asli-Naqli, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Guide, Jewel Thief, Johny Mera Naam, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna showcase his golden era. Even in the 1970s and 1980s, he stayed relevant with films such as Amir Garib, Warrant, Jaaneman, Darling Darling, Des Pardes, Swami Dada, and Lashkar.
Among his most beloved works are Munimji, Funtoosh, Baarish, Nau Do Gyarah, Solva Saal, Teen Devian, Prem Pujari, Tere Mere Sapne, and Heera Panna. The government honored him with the Padma Bhushan and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contributions to Indian cinema.
Dev Anand wrapped up his incredible run with Chargesheet in 2011, a film he also directed. Tributes like Jackie’s remind us why this Bollywood icon endures—his films and energy continue to inspire new generations of movie lovers.
