Mumbai, September 4 – Music composer Nadeem Saifi shared some interesting stories from his decades-long career, including how he was gifted a Maruti Suzuki car by the late Gulshan Kumar after the massive success of the hit song “Aashiqui.”
In an exclusive chat with , Nadeem revealed, “Gulshan Kumar gifted me a white Maruti Suzuki after ‘Aashiqui’ became a huge success.” This shows the appreciation and good rapport he had with the music mogul.
Nadeem also recalled a funny incident with filmmaker Subhash Ghai during the making of the classic film “Pardes.” He jokingly told Ghai, “First book the car, then I’ll give you the songs,” before sharing his work. Ghai was surprised, but Nadeem explained, “I knew I was about to give you some of the best songs, so I wanted the car first.” Ghai quickly ordered two cars, showing how confident Nadeem was about his music.
He further shared that when he played the songs, he asked Ghai for a quick story summary of the film, so he could give the right songs. Ghai was so impressed that he hugged Nadeem and said, “No one can beat you for the next 50 years. I do 20 meetings to get one song, and you delivered three instantly. How did you manage that?” It was a proud moment for the talented composer.
Nadeem also remembered predicting the success of the film “Saajan” before its release. He suggested to the film’s producers, Ratan Tata and Ganesh Jain, to increase the number of cassette tape machines, expecting the music would be a huge hit. They laughed, wondering if it would be as big as “Aashiqui.” Nadeem confidently replied, “It could be even bigger. Just increase the machines.” After the film’s release, they admitted that his prediction was right, and the demand for “Saajan” music indeed soared.
