Veteran actress Saira Banu took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to late Bollywood star Sulakshana Pandit, who died at 71 in Mumbai on November 6th. In her heartfelt post, Banu remembered how “full of love” and devoted Pandit was to family, her singing tone as pure as a nightingale, and the warmth she brought to every set. She also saluted Pandit’s role in the 1976 classic Hera Pheri alongside Amitabh Bachchan, a film that “will forever stay close to my heart” for the veteran actress.

Banu reflected on friendships that had grown over decades: “I remember her laughter, her humility, her sparkle.” She added that Pandit often visited their home after her own marriage, bringing her talented brothers Jatin and Lalit, alongside their revered father Pandit Ji. “Today, as I remember both Zarine and Sulakshana, my heart feels heavy, yet full of love,” the actress wrote, calling the two women “women of immense grace and warmth.” She concluded by wishing them eternal peace and a shining legacy.

Sulakshana Pandit, whose career spanned the 1970s and early 1980s, was also an acclaimed singer. Born on July 12, 1954, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, she sang with Lata Mangeshkar on the hit “Saat Samandar Paar Se” from the 1967 film Taqdeer. In cinema, she starred in hits such as Waqt Ki Deewar, Apnapan, and Khandaan, working with stars like Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha. Her final playback song appeared in Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), composed by her brothers Jatin and Lalit. Pandit’s performance style and vocal purity earned her a lasting legacy in Bollywood history.

Reports say Pandit had been ill for a long time and passed away in a Mumbai hospital. No official statement from her family or team had been released at the time of the article. Her niece, actress Vijayta Pandit, and the legendary classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj, were also family highlights, underlining the musical legacy that carried through generations.
