Kabul, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – Local police say that over the last day, at least two people lost their lives and 16 others were hurt in a string of road crashes across Afghanistan.
In Dushi district of northern Baghlan province, a head‑on collision between two cars claimed one life and left four people wounded. Further east, in Wardak province two separate incidents resulted in one fatality and five injuries in total. Meanwhile, a crash in Hazrat Sultan district of Samangan province injured seven more people. Officials pointed to careless driving and the poor, overburdened state of the roads as the main culprits.
These incidents follow earlier wrecks on Monday and Sunday in the northern provinces of Faryab and Kunduz, where five people were killed and 23 others, including women and children, were injured.
On December 8, at least two passengers died and 20 others were hurt when a bus overturned in the Ali Abad district of Kunduz, near the highway that connects Badakhshan to Kabul. Provincial police spokesman Jumaddin Khaksar said the crash was caused by reckless driving, and emergency crews quickly transported the injured to nearby health centres.
The same week, a vehicle plunged into a river in northern Badakhshan, killing four and injuring two on Wednesday.
Traffic accidents claim thousands of lives every year in Afghanistan, often because drivers are reckless, vehicles are overloaded, roads are poorly maintained, traffic signs are scarce and highways are in disrepair.
Earlier on December 4, a collision in eastern Laghman province killed one commuter and injured 12 others, according to spokesman Mohammad Yunus Yusufzai. He noted that three of the injured were women, some seriously hurt.
On November 23, a head‑on collision along the busy Herat‑Kandahar highway in western Herat province resulted in ten deaths and more than ten injuries, the provincial police office reported.
These incidents underscore the ongoing danger posed by unsafe road conditions and driver negligence across the country.
