India, UAE to further boost economic ties as bilateral trade crosses $100 billion

New Delhi – During the third meeting of the CEPA Joint Committee, India and the UAE confirmed that they will tighten trade facilitation, regulatory cooperation and data sharing. The session, jointly convened by Ajay Bhadoo, India’s Additional Secretary at the Department of Commerce, and Juma Al Kait, UAE’s Assistant Undersecretary for International Trade Affairs, highlighted the impressive growth of bilateral trade, which topped $100 billion in FY 2024‑25—a 19.6 % jump that underscores the UAE’s importance as a key partner for India.

UAE officials also met with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal to discuss how both countries can make the most of CEPA. The two sides reviewed the partnership’s progress in detail, covering market‑access negotiations, data‑exchange protocols, the allocation of Gold TRQ, anti‑dumping rules, service provisions, rules of origin, and BIS licensing issues. India updated the UAE on a new, transparent competitive bidding process for Gold TRQ allocation.

The ministers cited recent high‑level talks, including meetings between Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi in both Mumbai and Dubai. They re‑affirmed their joint goal of expanding non‑oil, non‑precious‑metal trade to hit the $100 billion mark by 2030. Discussions also covered regulatory collaboration in pharmaceuticals, resolving certificate‑of‑origin disputes, BIS coordination, and the preliminary signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on food safety and technical standards between India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE).

In a recent statement, Goyal noted that the UAE’s substantial financial resources are expected to boost both FDI in Indian businesses and FII inflows into Indian capital markets. — LatestNewsX
